DGST 101: Introduction to Digital Studies 101, UMW, Fall 2017
ENGL 308: Writing Studies and Healing: Fall 2021
• “I thoroughly enjoyed this course and found it useful in my future nursing career. The professor was very helpful and gave great feedback on rough/final drafts.”
• “When I first saw the Writing Studies course in my degree map, I instantly dreaded the idea of having to complete it. However, after taking this course, I have absolutely loved it. I feel like I have learned so much about the different writing styles and it has definitely helped me in my other classes when it comes to writing assignments. I wish I could have taken this course earlier in my college years!”
DGST 301E: Virtual & Augmented Reality Spring 2021
• “Dr. Blevins has been my favorite professor at UMW. Her method of emphasizing ‘low stress learning’ allowed the students to feel more engaged with sharing their works and contributing to the class. I always logged into her class feeling super motivated and engaged!”
ENGL 202J1: Writing in the Workplace Spring 2021
• “I really enjoyed this class! I feel like I learned a lot about writing in the workplace, and I grew as a writer. I enjoyed the Resume and Cover Letter assignment because it helped me get prepared to apply for jobs! Additionally, I really enjoyed the career report assignment because it helped me figure out what I want to do as a career in the future! Overall, this was a great class, and I think that every UMW student should try to take this class!”
• “I really enjoyed this class and felt that it gave me a well–rounded understanding of the course topic. The criteria were very clear for each assignment, and I felt it was
presented logically so that everything built on itself. Asynchronous courses can be stressful and feel disorganized, but this one did not. Overall, a great class!”
ENGL 316A: Technical Writing: Summer 2020
• “Overall, I thought this was a great course and a fun experience. I came into this course knowing very little about technical writing; I remember looking up the definition a hundred times before the first week of class. Having written this on the last Monday of the course, however, I can confidently say I can not only know what technical writing is, but that I know how to do it. Considering how much of writing IS technical, I'm especially grateful I was able to take this course before going out into the professional world.”
DGST 101: Introduction to Digital Studies: Fall 2019
• “I deeply enjoyed readings about digital ethics, not simply because they were interesting but also because they pertained to the experiences I have had outside of this class. I also found our in–class discussions to be very engaging. I always felt as though my comments were being heard and respected which made me feel more comfortable contributing. My favorite workshop was probably the photography one or the VR/AR one. Both were very enjoyable and allowed for a change of pace in the content of the class. . . . This class has always been something I look forward to with excitement.”
• “My favorite workshops were definitely the AR and paper circuitry. AR was a good stress–reliever (coloring was fun!) and getting to see the awesome technology that kids get to
learn with today was super fun. The paper circuitry was cool because it wasn't something you'd expect. Workshops that bring awe are definitely hold the most power in my opinion. A lot of the work I
have done in class, esp my domain, will be taken with me to future classes/endeavors.”
DGST 395: Applied Digital Studies: Spring 2019
• “Professor Blevins wants her students to succeed. She incorporates various different activities so that her students can better understand the material. I like the discussion aspect of the class because I get to hear other student's opinions and get to share my own. I also liked how we all shared our skills and knowledge on digital technology because it was interesting to see what other students are skilled in. I also like how we got to pick what we wanted to do for our final project because picking something we were passionate about made it more fun and motivating to do the project.”
• “For each day we meet, she also makes an itinerary of what we will be doing in class that day which is extremely helpful and great to look back on when needed. Her feedback on
assignments is also very helpful especially when you have a similar assignment coming up to approve on or even just tips for what could be changed. The activities and the big final project are always
my favorite parts of the semester because I get to showcase as well as push myself to learn something new. . . . I have been able to add many things to my resume because of the courses I have
taken with Dr. Blevins.”
ENGL 306R: Writing & Literacy in the Digital Age Spring 2019
• “This class was extremely eye opening and interesting. Blevins was very passionate and engaging. I love the multimodal activities she did with us. The books we read were absolutely amazing and I really am sad this class has come to an end. We looked at these books from an approach that I never would have thought to view them. All our assignments were very relevant to the content. There is nothing I would change about this course. Absolutely fantastic!”
• “This class was very interesting. It opened my eyes to the world of literacy as I have always thought that literacy only meant the ability to read, write, and speak. However, I
learned so much more!”
ENGL 202: Writing about Writing Spring 2018
• “I learned an incredible amount of material learning how to improve both my reading and writing skills along with becoming my own literacy sponsor and finding my writing style! I have never been more encouraged in an English class as much as I was with her class. I highly recommend her as an instructor to all students, even non–English majors. She was consistent with the syllabus, reliable on grading and resources, and she was very helpful whenever I needed help.”
• “Writing about Writing with Professor Blevins was absolutely one of my favorite writing classes I took throughout my four years at UMW.”
English 101: College Writing I, UNCG, Spring 2016
• “Course was planned great. Each assignment seemed to flow right into the next one. Things never seemed too overwhelming.”
English 105 Online, Introduction to Digital Narrative, UNCG, Summer 2016
• “. . . her communication skills were exceptional, which is important in an online course.”
• “Top notch. Please have her train ALL the other instructors and faculty who plan to teach online courses in the humanities. Instructor Blevins has the art and science of this
stuff down. It makes a big difference to the student. Online aside, Blevins has opened up a world of understanding for me.”
• “The professor was one of the most organized and prepared professors I have ever had.”
• “Professor Blevins made great videos that were helpful in understanding the course content. The explanations for the assignments were also good.”
English 230: Writing for the Workplace and Public Audiences, UNCG, Spring 2016
• “The class absolutely threw me for a loop. I did not expect the type of content and materials that we would be encountering. From the wiki genre to augmented reality, I was
learning new definitions and technology that I never thought I would be associated with. This class sparked my interest more so than any other.”
• “I am thankful I was exposed to a diverse array of new technological communication methods.”
English 102: College Writing II: Academic Research and Writing, Speaking Intensive, UNCG, Fall 2015
• “Brilliant in the efficient use of our work; one project helped build the next.”
English 105: Introduction to Narrative, UNCG, Fall 2013
• “Everything about the course is stated in the syllabus: due dates, schedule, etc. It was easy to get a hang of the flow of the organization of the class.”
• “This course especially helped me to improve my writing skills during peer and instructor review. Through these times and course instruction I feel more confident in my writing
and am better at it.”
• “Ms. Blevins was an outstanding instructor and I would recommend any student to take a course with her. I have had instructors that were negative, didn't give prompt feedback, and
didn't encourage the students. Ms. Blevins definitely was one of the best instructors I have had.”
English 101, UNCG, Spring 2013
• “Ms. Blevins is one of the best instructors I have come across at UNCG, I owe her a lot for helping me through the semester. Teachers like her are why I am at UNCG.”
CORE 101/102: Essentials of Written and Oral Communication/Advanced Written and Oral Communication, Radford University, Spring 2011
• “Gave plenty of examples when it came to assignments given. Clear with what her expectations are.”
• “Great instructor. I wish she taught CORE 201 & 202 so I could have her again.”
